Staff Spotlight on KC Frain

KC has been with us a little bit more than a year handling mostly receptionist duties. But before joining us as a regular employee she was, and is, a respite care provider for her brothers. Now KC is in her second trimester of “growing a tiny human,” as she says. We interrupted her to ask a few questions.

RFENC: What brought you to Rowell Family Empowerment?
KC Frain: I initially came here because my brothers needed respite services; to become my brothers’ respite provider. You know I was hired on the spot right? (laughing) They wanted me, now they’re stuck with me. (laughing)

RFENC: What, in your opinion, is the most valuable thing you could tell a new parent?
KC: Inspire kids to be the best they can be no matter their disability.

RFENC: What kind of activities do you enjoy?
KC: I enjoy being with my family. I enjoy camping and fishing and playing outside with my boys – sports events. I have three boys so everything is “boy based” usually. I love going to the movies. I love shopping. If I could be a professional shopper I would. (laughing)

RFENC: In your life who is touched by diverse ability?
KC: I have two brothers who have diverse abilities. My brother Taylor has intellectual disability and my brother James has schizophrenia along with mild intellectual disability.

RFENC: What’s your philosophy on life?
KC: I feel like in any given situation you should try to make the best out of it. I don’t know! (shrugging, smiling) Try to be happy. (laughing) But love your family and cherish them and be thankful for what you have. I really feel that just family is the most important.

RFENC: If you won $2 million what would you do with it?
KC: (thinking, thinking) I would definitely buy a house. Wait, that’s what everybody says! (laughing) I would travel the world with my husband and set up funds for my kids’ future. Help my family and make charitable donations to causes that are important to me, like Rowell.

RFENC: If a crow with only one wing is flying North in the winter at an average speed of 10 MPH, how long would it take to drive to Cuba?
KC: First of all, the bird wouldn’t be able to fly with one wing. (laughing) Second of all, you have to know how fast the car is going because you said ‘drive’ not ‘fly’. Third, did the bird hit your windshield and it’s going along with you or something? Maybe that’s the catch to the whole thing! This question just makes no sense to me. And where did you start with this? Where is the starting point? Is it in Cuba? (laughing)
